Baseball Drops Two Games Versus San Diego

Pleasant Hill, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team dropped two games to visiting San Diego on Friday afternoon, falling to the Toreros 4-1 in the first game of the doubleheader at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, CA and losing 10-5 in Game 2.

With the losses the Gaels drop to 9-14 overall and 4-5 in West Coast Conference action. San Diego improved to 18-15-1 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

San Diego took an early 2-0 lead in the second game, scoring one run in the first inning and one in the third off Simo. The Toreros added two in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 7-2 lead.

The Gaels scored two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI single Delaney Gallagher and an RBI double by Adam Bellows.

Simo pitched six innings for the Gaels, allowing four earned runs.

For the game, Delaney Gallagher was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Sam Carter was 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and Cody Nelson was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and was hit by a pitch three times.

In Game 1, the Gaels fell behind 1-0 after San Diego scored in the top of the third inning. Starting pitcher Joel Fountain pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs but picked up the loss, falling to 2-4 on the season.

The Gaels tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Adam Bellows. Bellows drove in Sam Carter, who started the inning off with a single.

San Diego scored one run in the eighth inning off Fountain and added two runs in the ninth inning off Mike Nisco for its 4-1 victory.

In the game Carter finished 3-for-4 with one run scored and Mike Sansoe, Delaney Gallagher and Adam Bellows each had a hit.

Saint Mary's returns to action on Tuesday, March 29 when it hosts UC Davis at 2:30 p.m. at Louis Guisto Field.
