Three Student-Athletes Named to WCC Spring All-Academic

May 31, 2005

San Bruno, CA - The West Coast Conference announced its 2005 Spring All-Academic teams, and three Gael student-athletes were honored. At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team.

Aude Lambert was selected to the WCC All-Academic team.

Saint Mary's senior Joe Lanza earned All-Academic honors for men's golf, junior Lindsey Anderson earned all-academic in rowing and sophomore Aude Lambert was named all-academic for women's tennis.

Lindsey Anderson was selected to the WCC All-Academic team.

Lanza, an economics major, had a 3.63 grade point average, while leading the Saint Mary's golf team to its first NCAA Tournament. Lanza was participating in his second consecutive tournament, making it as an individual his junior year.

Anderson, an undecided major, finished the season with a 3.71 grade point average. Anderson helped lead the varsity eight to a fourth place finish in the WCC Championships, the best in school history, beating Santa Clara in the varsity eight race.

Lambert, an undecided major, earned a 3.33 grade point average, while leading the Gaels to one of their best finishes in school history. Lambert, playing at No. 1 singles all year was also named to the WCC First Team for the first time in school history and the Gaels as a team finished in fourth place.

"These honorees represent the commitment of the WCC student-athletes to both academic and athletic excellence," WCC Commissioner Mike Gilleran said. "Every year, it's a difficult process to narrow the long list of qualified nominees from each institution. All of those nominated should be proud of their achievements."
