Saint Mary's Announces 2006 Hall of Fame Class

The Saint Mary's Honors Court has voted on its 2006 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee Class. The inductees include: David Carter, Mike Estrella, Lori Hokerson, Cheree Tappin, Giancarlo Trevisan, and Henry Van Gieson. The Honors Court will also honor the 1958-59 men's basketball team that reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in 1959.

David Carter, `89 (Basketball), is regarded as one of the best point guards ever to play in a Gael uniform. He ranks #2 all-time in assists and led the Gael's to an NCAA Tournament berth in 1989.

Mike Estrella, `94 (Football), is the best kicker Saint Mary's College has ever seen on the football field. He was an All American in 1992 and is number one all-time in 10 different football categories, including scoring, field goals made, and field goals attempted.

Lori Hokerson, `95 (Women's Soccer), ranks #1 in career and single season goals scored, career points, #2 in career assists, and #1 in career game winning goals. She was also an All American in 1992 while playing for the Gaels.

Cheree Tappin, `91 (Women's Basketball), was a three-time All WCC selection for the Lady Gaels and named 1987-88 WCC Freshmen of the Year. She still holds the record for most points scored in a single game with 38 points versus Portland on February 25, 1989.

Giancarlo Trevisan (Coach) led the Gael's Crew teams from 1977-1999. His squad had several top finishes in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association and is adored by all of former players.

Henry Van Gieson, `48 (Football), was a part of the great "Whiz Kid" teams that also featured Herman Wedemeyer and Denis O'Connor. He played tackle, end, and punter for Gaels and was awarded the prestigious Signum Fidei Award in 1962.

1958-59 Men's basketball team: Joe Barry, Lawrence Brennan, Alvin Claiborne, John Dold, Robert Dold, LaRoy Doss, Thomas Meschery, Richard Sigaty, Wesley Tamm, Eugene Womack, Assistant Coach Bob Hagler, and Coach Jim Weaver.

The 2006 Hall of Fame Ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 30 at 12:00 p.m. on the Saint Mary's Campus. For more information or to purchase tickets please call 925-631-4168.
