MADIGAN GYM PHOTO GALLERY
Moraga, CA- Madigan Gym which used to house the storied programs from the Galloping Gaels days has since turned into a recreational facility and has now received a recent renovation. What used to be the upper reserve seating in the gym has now turned into a state of the art cardiovascular workout area.
Spearheaded by Director of Athletics Mark Orr and Associate Director of Recreational Sports and Administration Marty Storti, the new fitness area has proved to be an immediate hit to the campus community in just a week of its official opening.
The fitness area showcases 12 cardio machines which includes; treadmills, ellipticals, upright bikes and recumbent bikes with room for 10 more machines and a core area. The area overlooks the gym floor where recreational sports and SMC athletic teams train and compete.
"Saint Mary's is a very active campus community, yet there were a lot of students who belonged to outside fitness facilities," Storti explained. "With this new addition to the campus, students will not feel the need to belong somewhere else."
The project started at the end of last spring and was considered a priority by Saint Mary's President Brother Ronald Gallagher. After a two-month construction period, all that was needed were the machines. Once the state of the art equipment came on Friday, September 15, the facility opened to the campus that very same day.
The Madigan renovation is just one of many improvements that took place this summer to numerous athletics facilities. In the last week alone, SMC opened a new look McKeon Pavilion and a resurfaced Saint Mary's Stadium.
