San Jose, CA- The Saint Mary's baseball team dropped its first road game of the season in a 6-5 decision to San Jose State from Municipal Stadium Saturday afternoon. Freshman Randy Wells batted 3-for-4 in the losing effort. After the day, SMC falls to 2-4 on the season.

After the Gaels put together a big top half of the third with three runs to take a 3-1 lead the host Spartans answered with four in the bottom frame to take a 5-3 lead. Wells delivered the big hit with a single through the left side that plated two runs.

Kyle Bellows smacked a two-run double to left-center that brought in two for the Spartans.

The Gaels added another in the fourth when sophomore Cory Miller brought freshman Michael Gonzales home on a fielder's choice.

After SJSU took a 6-4 advantage SMC pulled to within one when freshman Anthony Aliotti drove home Wells on a groundout to second base. Wells started the inning with a triple to center field.

On top of Wells' three hits, the newcomer added two RBIs and two runs. Aliotti also drove in two while Miller tallied a hit, run and a RBI.

Saint Mary's freshman hurler Brandon Berl (0-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing five earned on 11 hits with five strikeouts in six innings. Spencer Snodgrass (1-0) earned the victory with a one-hit, three inning relief appearance. Scott Sobczak earned the save, allowing one run on one hit in two innings of work.

Saint Mary's will return home on Sunday, February 4 to host San Jose State in the rubber match. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. from Louis Guisto Field. The series finale will be available on the radio at SMCGaels.com.
