San Bruno, CA- Saint Mary's had nine student-athletes named to the West Coast Conference 2007 Spring All-Academic Team as announced by the conference office today. Participants on five Saint Mary's teams garnered academic honors.
Women's tennis led all SMC squads with four recipients. Junior Jessica Hoath (Coomera, Australia), senior Aude Lambert (Vichy, France), junior Stef Ordoveza (Daly City, CA) and sophomore Erin Young (Fairfield, CA) represented the team.
Men's tennis followed with two selections. Junior Yury Platonov (Moscow, Russia) and senior Andre Sion (Perpig-nan, France) garnered the honor.
Junior Mike McRae (Salt Lake City, UT) was tabbed All-Academic from the men's golf team while senior Eric Cattoni (Lethbridge, Alberta) earned the honor from baseball. Senior Lindsey Anderson (University Place, WA) rounded out the squad from women's rowing.
The 2007 West Coast Conference Spring All-Academic teams honor some of the league's finest examples of the consummate scholar-athlete. At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports. To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team.
"These honorees represent the commitment of WCC student-athletes to both academic and athletic excellence," said WCC Commissioner Michael Gilleran. "Every year, it's a difficult process to narrow the long list of qualified nominees from each institution. All of those nominated should be proud of their achievements."
