
Chadd Cocco Finishes Third At 2007 Scratch Players Championship

Modesto, CA - Saint Mary's senior golfer Chadd Cocco (Bend, OR) posted a third place finish at the 2007 Scratch Players Championship on Thursday from the Del Rio Country Club in Modesto, CA. Cocco posted rounds of 71-67-68-67 for a 274 (-10) total and finished two shots off the pace of Rick Kulacz from Australia and one shot back of second place finisher Mu Hu of China.
Cocco, who red shirted last season and well be a senior for the Gaels in 2007-08, competed well in this tournament against some top competition in college golf. Cocco, who also won the 2007 San Francisco City Championship, finished tied with Rob Grube of Stanford, who posted a third place individual finish in the 2007 NCAA Championships. Cocco finished eight shots better than Kyle Stanley, a 2007 graduate of Clemson and the runner-up in the 2007 NCAA Championship, who carded a score of 282 (-2).
In addition to Grube and Stanley, Cocco finished three shots better than UCLA's Lucas Lee, who finished tied for 22 at the 2007 NCAA Championships and Sihwan Kim, who will be attending Stanford in the fall and was the U.S. Junior Amateur Champ in 2005, and was seven shots better than Jake Younan-Wise a top amateur from Australia.
Fellow Saint Mary's golfer Michael McRae finished tied for 68th overall with a 54-hole score of 224 (+10) with rounds of 78-72-73. McRae failed to make the final round cut, which was limited to the top-30 player following the first 54 holes of play.
