Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's Director of Athletics and Recreational Sports Mark Orr announced the hiring of Mark Papadopoulos as the Associate Athletic Director for Operations. Papadopoulos comes to Saint Mary's from San Jose State University. He will officially join the Saint Mary's staff on Monday, August 27.
"I am excited to add Mark to the staff," Orr said. "He brings a wealth of experience and will add a new perspective to our department."
Papadopoulos spent the last year as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Events and Facilities at SJSU. While at SJSU, Papadopoulos was responsible for numerous tasks such as site preparation, coordination of grounds crew and managed contracts and financial transactions.
Before taking the position at San Jose State, Papadopoulos was the Assistant Director of Athletics for Game Operations at the University of San Francisco. At USF, Papadopoulos oversaw all aspects of game operations during home athletic events. He also managed the scheduling of the basketball, soccer and baseball facilities.
"I am looking forward to working at my alma mater and being part of the Gael family," Papadopoulos said. "Mark Orr is doing great things with the department and it feels like a natural fit for me and my family. Coming back to the West Coast Conference will be nice as I have built many great relationships with individuals from around the league. Through the years the SMC staff has always treated me well and I hope make positive contributions to the College."
Papadopoulos has over 18 years of collegiate athletics experience as an administrator and player. Papadopoulos also spent time at the West Coast Conference office, San Francisco State and Sonoma State holding various positions in Equipment and Media and Public Relations.
Papadopoulos earned his degree in Communication Studies from Sonoma State University in 1993 and earned his Master's from SMC in Sports Administration in 1999. He was an Academic All-Conference baseball player at San Diego State and Sonoma State.
