SMC vs. Vanguard Post Game Quotes

Randy: "It was a good game for us. It was a close game. We haven't really had a close game. In our scrimmages we haven't and in our first two games we haven't. I would rather it had been the other way where we would have separated earlier, but we didn't and you have to credit them. I thought they played really well. They hit 12 threes, they did a good job, and they're well coached. We had to play these games, because we couldn't get any other home games, so we tried to find the best NAIA and Division II teams we could find, so that we could see some of out weakness and they did that for us. They exposed us defensively. We really have to defend the three a lot better. Defensively and rebounding we have to get better and because we played them we found that out. I thought we were pretty good offensively. We took care of the ball, yet at times we were careless and immature as a basketball team, which we need to get straightened out. We have eight games away from home coming up. It's gonna be a tough stretch. The amount of experience and how mature our team is, will be exposed.
Reporter: "How are you feeling and what happened on that play?"
Reporter: "How do you guys feel about the these three games preparing you for the upcoming tournament?"
Randy: "For these three games I told our guys they did what I hoped they would do. We had all three games and we were able to separate in all of them so we were able to play a lot of guys. We've done what we're supposed to do at this point, but in these three games we've learned what we need to do to get better. We have to get better. We were sloppy and careless. This tournament, there are no weak sisters in this one. It's a big tough tournament. That's what you play for, you coach for. You want to play against good competition and we get to play on a neutral court, so that'll be good.
Reporter: "Randy, How important is the tournament?"
Randy: "I think its good to lay real good teams early, rather then late. If there are some holes in what you're doing you can fix them before it's to late. Our league will be very tough this year, so we need to play a good amount non-conference schedule, which we have. I told our guys this is probably the toughest stretch of eight games since I've been at Saint Mary's. We're tough. We're an experienced team. We should be ready for this challenge.
Reporter: "Have you ever had a situation like this where you're away from home for a month?"
Randy: "Two years ago we had a tough stretch where we went to Nevada, UConn and St. Joe's and I forget where else, but it was a tough little swing there. We try and schedule on the road during vacation so we don't miss class. Sometimes we end up with a situation like this. We couldn't get a home game this year. It made it more games then I would like it to be, but it is what it is and we're gonna go play now."
Diamon: "I'm good. I honestly don't really know. I just know I was going fast towards the rim and I guess he kind of pushed me or tried to grab me and I lost my balance and hit the floor."
Reporter: "Well just talk about the win. Obviusly the first half was back and forth and the second half you guys were able to pull away."
Diamon: "That's pretty much how it went. I don't think we struggled. I just think we were a little slow and basically we just turned it on.
Reporter: "Diamon, what do you expect from this next weekend? How do you think you guys are doing"
Diamon: "I think we're doing well. I think it's definitely gonna be a challenge, but I don't think any of our guys our scared. We've played a against a lot of competition in the past years, like last year. I think we're more ready if anything. So, we'll just go down there and play one game at a time.
Reporter: "Wayne how are you feeling 3 games into the season, coming off a red shirt, are you feeling good about where you are?"
Wayne: "I think a little bit. I have a little ways to go. I'm just trying to work in. I'm not trying to force anything. I just want to keep competing, cheer my teammates on. It's not really about me. It's about everybody."
