Box Score
Moraga, CA - Junior starting pitcher Brian Justice (2-1) received no help offensively, taking the hard luck complete game loss, as Saint Mary's (13-9/0-1 WCC) falls to cross bay rival San Francisco (14-10/1-0 WCC) 2-0 at Louis Guisto Field.
Justice pitched beautifully throwing his pitches for strikes and a no hitter through 4.2 innings. Justice's pitching line on the day was nine complete, scattering seven hits, two earned runs, two walks, and four strike outs.
The only scoring of the game came from the Dons, as they scored one in the sixth and one in the seventh. USF got it going in the sixth when right fielder Kyle Morgan hit a two out double down the right field line. He came in to score on the single from pitcher/designated hitter Mitchell Bialosky.
Bialosky (1-3) started the game at first base for the Dons but came in to pitch for starter Chase Tigert. On the day Bialosky went five complete, surrendering four hits, no runs, one walk while striking out four.
The Gaels had their chances, especially in the bottom of the second when SMC had runners at first and third with one out, following base hits from sophomore left fielder Kyle Jensen and junior shortstop Joel Staples. But a strike out swinging from sophomore third baseman Scott Schneider and a diving catch by Moore in right field robbed senior Kenny Fuglerud of what could have been a two RBI double.
The base hit from Staples continued his team leading 10 game hit streak, as his batting average continues to climb.
The Gaels threatened again in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore first baseman Anthony Aliotti singled through the left side, and advanced to second after Jensen's walk. Following freshman Justin Fazio's hard hit ground ball to the shortstop the Gaels had runners at second and third with one out. However, the Gaels couldn't bring the runners in as Staples popped up to the shortstop and Schneider crushed a line drive down the first base line, but Bialosky flashed the leather and robbed Schneider of the sure double.
Saint Mary's out hit the Dons on the day collecting nine total, however SMC could never get that clutch hit to bring the runner in as they stranded 10 runners.
The series resumes tomorrow for a 1 PM first pitch at Louis Guisto field. On the mound for the Gaels will be sophomore Scott Schneider (4-1, 3.30 ERA) and for USF it will be Matt Baugh (3-2, 3.79 ERA).
