The men's and women's basketball teams are partnering with SMC's Catholic Institute for Lasallian Social Action (CILSA) to co-sponsor a food drive to benefit Monument Crisis Center in Concord. Fans are encouraged to bring donated food to two upcoming games!
The first food drive will be on Friday, December 3rd, when the women's basketball team takes on UC Santa Barbara at 7pm. This service initiative is part of the NCAA women's basketball grant program, "Be A Part of It". All fans are encouraged to donate canned goods and other food. The first 100 fans that do so will receive a FREE women's basketball t-shirt, while sizes last.
The second drive is Wednesday, December 8th, when the men's basketball team hosts Denver at 7pm. All fans are encouraged to donate canned goods and other food. The first 75 fans that do so will receive a FREE SMC pom-pom.
Food items currently needed are: mac & cheese, canned soup, dry soup (Top Ramen, Cup of Noodles), baking items (cookie mix, cake mix, jell-o), instant oatmeal, muffin mix, peanut butter, cereal (low sugar), and side dishes (rice, pinto beans, pasta).
"These are tough times for a lot of families, and I think it is important for us to try and help those in need, especially within the local community," said head women's basketball coach Paul Thomas.
