Members of the Saint Mary's College baseball team were able to fit some community relations into their busy schedules on Wednesday afternoon. Ryan Mulligan, Donald Collins, Toby DeMello, and Patrick Wisdom, all went to visit first through fourth grade classrooms at Happy Valley Elementary in Lafayette to read stories and sign autographs for some of the classes. The books that were chosen by the classes were all baseball related books. When the players were finished in each classroom, they presented each class with their own autographed baseball for the classroom.
"We had a great time reading and visiting with the kids. This provides us with such a great opportunity to be role models to these students. I thought it was really cool that some of the students gave us gifts such as pictures they drew and origami art", said senior catcher Ryan Mulligan.
"It was a great treat for our students to spend time with the Saint Mary's baseball players. It was a wonderful opportunity for our children to interact with young and hardworking members of the Lamorinda community", said first grade teacher Katie McSherry.
The baseball team will travel to Los Angeles this weekend as it takes on Loyola Marymount in a West Coast Conference showdown.
