Saint Mary's Weekend Recap

Men's soccer continues to have the run of the season as they beat Brown Sunday night, proceeding on to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. Men's basketball also won in the first round of the Shamrock Office Solutions Classic hosted by SMC with a win over San Francisco State. The SMC volleyball team proved victorious against Seattle University, winning their seventh straight game. Finally, women's basketball hosted the SMC Hilton Concord, defeating Virginia Tech in the first round but losing to Quinnipiac in the final.

The Saint Mary's men's soccer team continued their run with a 3-2 overtime victory against Brown. Trevor Newquist dove to head in his second goal of the match in the 98th minute to give the Gaels the win. The Gaels are now on their way to the Elite Eight, taking on No. 1 seed North Carolina in Chapel Hill on December 3 at 2:00 p.m. (PT).

Men's basketball claimed a victory in the opening round of the Shamrock Office Solutions Classic hosted by SMC against SF State, securing the win 86-52. Stephen Holt, Jorden Page, and Clint Steindl all scored 14 points apiece, while senior Rob Jones recorded his fourth consecutive double-double of the season. With the win, the Gaels improve to 3-1 in the preseason and will face off against Weber State on November 28 at 7 p.m. in McKeon Pavilion.

On Saturday, the volleyball team defeated Seattle University in straight sets, 25-16, 25-11, 25-20, making it their seventh-straight victory of the season. With the win, the Gaels won a program best 17-straight sets to end the season and went undefeated throughout November. Sophomore Jordan Shaw had a match-high 11 kills with one error against the Redhawks. Service aces proved to attribute to their win, with Missy White having three service aces. White finished with 44 aces for the year, breaking the single-season record previously set by Cassandra Kolkka in 2005.

The women's basketball team hosted the SMC Hilton Classic and faced off against Virginia Tech Friday night, securing a 60-47 victory. Jasmine Smith led the team with a season-high 21 points, while Kate Gaze and Danielle Mauldin added 13 points apiece. With the win, the Gaels headed in to the championship game against Quinnipiac on Saturday night. Despite a 13-point lead in the second-half, the Gaels could not finish, suffering a 69-67 loss. Jasmine Smith and Kate Gaze each had 15 points, while Jackie Nared added 14 points and 14 rebounds. Saint Mary's is back in action on Tuesday, November 29 when it hosts William Jessup at 7:00 p.m. in McKeon Pavilion.
