MTEN: Gaels Fall to No. 23 Washington in Seattle

SEATTLE, Wash.- The Saint Mary's men's tennis team took on a tough Washington team on Sunday on the road, falling to the 23rd-ranked Huskies 7-0. The Gaels played tough in doubles but were unable to earn any singles wins on the day. SMC falls to 5-5 with the loss, while Washington improved to 11-4 on the season.

In doubles action, the Gaels battled well against the Huskies and kept matches close, but ultimately Washington was able to win on all three courts to earn the 1-0 lead. Gavin Leon and Maxime Olivan fell to No. 38 McMorrow and Nedunchzhiyan on court one 8-4, while Steven Dawson-Roberts and Joakim Norstrom dropped an 8-5 match to Bots and Schmidt at the three spot. Lucas Tirelli and Saad Benkirane kept it close on court two, but ultimately fell in a tiebrekaer to No. 52 Kildahl and Obenaus 8-7 (7-5).

Despite playing tough in doubles, the Gaels were unable to carry over any momentum into singles play. Olivan fell on court one to No. 75 Nedunchezhiyan 6-3, 6-2, while Tirelli dropped a 6-2, 6-1 match to No. 61 McMorrow at the two spot. Norstrom played at the three spot today and was defeated by No. 71 Kidahl 6-3, 6-3, while Benkirane fell to Schmidt 6-4, 6-3 on court four in the closest singles match of the day. In the final two matches, Leon dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Obenaus at the five spot, and El Bouzkouri fell to Bots 6-1, 6-0 on court six.

The Gaels will return to action on Tuesday, March 8 against Louisiana-Lafayette. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. from the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
