MORAGA, Calif. -- Nearly one-fifth of the Saint Mary's student-athlete population is scheduled to earn their degrees at Saturday morning's commencement ceremonies in Saint Mary's Stadium.
A total of 48 student-athletes will graduate this weekend, including five individuals who will be honored with institutional academic awards. Rower Jacqui Lindo will receive the Brother Kyran Aviani, FSC Award, given to a student with an outstanding scholastic record in the art department. Softball's Maryanne Cronin will receive the history department's Henry George Award.
Bradley Alban from cross country will receive the Edward P. Madigan Award from the kinesiology department and volleyball standout Shannon Lowell will be honored with the Carlos Freitas Award from the biology department.
Lowell and men's soccer athlete Jordan Grider will also be recognized as the recipients of the George R. McKeon Award, given to one male and one female student distinguished both as outstanding athletes and scholars.
Commencement ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Mary's Stadium. Sherie Swiess Dodsworth, a 1978 graduate of Saint Mary's College BS in accounting will serve as the ceremony's keynote speaker. She serves as chief executive officer of Securita, Inc. which manufactures and markets the Vital Records PortaVault, a product she invented.
