Orr Appointed to Key NCAA Cabinet

MORAGA, Calif. -- Saint Mary's College Director of Athletics Mark Orr was recently appointed to the Division I Amateurism Cabinet for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Orr, the Gaels' athletic director since March of 2006, will serve the membership in this capacity for the next four years.

The Amateurism Cabinet along with the Academics Cabinet, and the Administration Cabinet have replaced the former Academics/Eligibility/Compliance Cabinet. This cabinet is responsible for all pre- and post-enrollment amateurism issues, including oversight of issues pertaining to the NCAA Eligibility Center, student-athlete likeness issues, and the relationship between college and professional athletes.

The Amateurism Cabinet reports to the Division I Leadership Council on policy issues and the Division I Legislative Council on legislative issues.

"I am honored with the opportunity to serve the NCAA membership as a member of the Amateurism Cabinet," said Orr, who served as the chair of the West Coast Conference's Executive Council from 2009-11 and recently ended his term as president of the Pacific Coast Softball Conference. "Some of the most challenging issues facing college athletics today are related to amateurism. This committee is charged with setting the course for the future of NCAA Division I athletics and it is an exciting time to be involved."

Orr's four-year appointment runs through July 1, 2015. The NCAA Division I Amateurism cabinet is comprised of 20 members and is chaired by Mark Hollis, the Director of Athletics at Michigan State University.
