SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference named 21 Saint Mary's student-athletes to the WCC Spring All-Academic Team, it was announced by the conference office. All five of SMC's participating spring sport programs had individuals qualify for the team.
At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an All-Academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports. To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA, while also being a significant contributor to his or her team. This year's list includes 20 repeat selections from last spring.
"The West Coast Conference is very proud to honor and recognize these exceptional student-athletes for their exemplary efforts in the classroom and on the fields of play," said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. "Our institutions strive to balance academic achievement in the classroom with success on the field, and this list is evident of that effort."
The Saint Mary's rowing team led the way for SMC with eight honorees including Haley Adams and her 3.711 GPA. Receiving honorable mention status on the rowing team included Jordan Bonadio, Michelle Burns, Brandy Cho, Alexandra Iwaszewicz, Nathalie Lambrecth, Jillian Parlee and Lisa Wickhem.
The baseball team placed five student-athletes on the team including Mark Anderson (3.27 GPA), Dorsey Ek (3.54 GPA) and Brenden Kalfus (3.40 GPA). Earning honorable mention included Justin Fazio and Cole Norton.
The golf team placed four on the WCC All-Academic team as Anders Engell (3.55 GPA), Ben Geyer (3.27 GPA) and Henrik Holm (3.46 GPA) earned First-Team spots. Richard Conlin was selected to the honorable mention team.
Men's Tennis had three representatives on the First-Team including Gavin Leon (3.277 GPA), Maxime Olivan (3.429) and Lucas Tirelli (3.768).
Claire Soper of the women's tennis team 3.272 earned a spot on the First-Team.
