SMC Athletics Hires Enos To Communications Post

MORAGA, Calif. -- Former local sports reporter Ben Enos has joined the Saint Mary's athletic communications staff as an assistant director, the school announced today.

Enos has served as a staff writer for the Contra Costa Times for the past six years and was assigned to the Saint Mary's basketball beat for the last two seasons. He also has been the newspaper's lead high school football and baseball beat writer the last several seasons, focusing heavily on the nationally-ranked De La Salle High School football program.

"We are thrilled to have Ben join our staff," said associate athletic director Richard Kilwien. "He brings a unique perspective and background to our communications staff and, I believe, his talents will make a big impact on telling some of the great stories of our student-athletes and staff."

A native of Richmond, Enos earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of California Berkeley in 2006. While in college he served as an intern and staff assistant for Congressman George Miller and covered local and prep sports for the Contra Costa Times as a freelance reporter.

"After nine years of covering sports in the East Bay, I'm thrilled to focus my efforts at Saint Mary's," said Enos. "Spending time on campus the last two years has shown what a welcoming environment I'm joining and I'm excited to get started."

While a staff member at the Times, Enos covered all aspects of prep sports and produced the annual Cream of the Crop recruiting series for the last three years. He also produced and hosted the annual East Bay High School Athletes awards show, co-created a web video series that focused on high school football and made appearances on Comcast SportsNet.

In addition to prep sports, he served as a backup for the newpaper's coverage of Oakland A's baseball and covered several Olympic sports events.
