CAIRNS, Queensland, Australia -- Clint Steindl, one of the top shooters in Saint Mary's basketball history, signed a multi-year contract to play professionally for the Skytrans Taipans in Australia's National Basketball League.

He was a key member of four-straight Gaels teams that participated in post-season play (2 NCAA, 2 NIT), won 79 percent of its games and won two West Coast Conference regular-season titles and two Zappos.com WCC Tournament championships.
"I'm really excited about everything that's going on in Cairns, from the team that is being put together, to the club and the amazing support by the community," Steindl told the club's website. "Everyone I have spoken to has had nothing but positive things to say about the Taipans, and I'm really glad that I will become a part of it."
One of three seniors on this year's Saint Mary's side that won the school's second-straight WCC regular-season title, Steindl averaged 7.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting a team-leading .420 from behind the 3-point arc. He ranked fourth in the WCC in 3-point percentage and 3-point field goals per game (2.0).
He finished his career at Saint Mary's in sixth-place in made 3-pointers (185), fifth in 3-point attempts (473) and seventh in 3-point percentage (.400). Steindl played in 122 games as a Gael, which ranks sixth on the school's all-time list - just one behind all-time leading scorer and fellow Aussie Daniel Kickert.
