Gaels Well Represented On WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Roughly 40 percent of Saint Mary's student-athletes were named to the West Coast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes that have balanced athletic success with academic excellence.

Of the 98 SMC athletes recognized, seven, including five members of the Saint Mary's rowing team, earned gold honors - which goes to student-athletes with a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or higher. Sophomore accounting major Katherine Wahl from rowing maintains a perfect 4.0.

Last year, 935 student-athletes garnered honors in the 2010-11 WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll. For the fourth consecutive year, the record has been broken as 1,093 student-athletes were honored for possessing at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

"I would like to congratulate the more than one thousand student-athletes who earned their place on this year's West Coast Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll," said WCC Commissioner Jamie Zaninovich. "Our member institutions are committed to assisting their student-athletes in reaching their highest potential, and breaking the record for number of student-athletes awarded this honor for the fourth year in a row is a testament to that dedication."

The conference recognizes qualifying student-athletes on the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll in three separate categories:

4.00-3.75 - Gold Honors
3.74-3.50 - Silver Honors
3.49-3.00 - Bronze Honors
