MORAGA, Calif. – Over the Memorial Day weekend, Saint Mary's College held its commencement and was well represented by its student-athletes.
2013 award winners included Holly Hayes (LAX) earning the Brother U. Jerome Griffin, FSC honor. This is awarded to an outstanding graduating senior who earned an outstanding scholastic record in the School of Economics and Business Administration.
Matthew Dellavedova (MBK) and Missy White (VB) each earned the George R. McKeon Award, which is presented to a male and female graduating student-athlete who has achieved noteworthy success in the classroom, on the playing field and in extracurricular activities.
Additionally, Beau Levesque (MBK) earned the Mens Sana in Corpore Sano award. This recognizes an outstanding undergraduate senior student in the Department of Kinesiology.
Receiving the Kinesiology Department award was probably my greatest and most treasured academic achievement because it was decided on by my professors based on my entire body of work for four years," said Levesque, who has earned West Coast Conference all-academic honors in each of the last two seasons. "It was very fulfilling knowing that I left a lasting, positive impression on the professors in my department. I am humbled and appreciative to earn the award. It was a great accomplishment for me and my family."
Hayes and Anna Schroeder (VB) graduated summa cum laude with a cumulative GPA in the 3.85 – 4.00 range. Levesque and Caroline Kreuz (WSOC) graduated magna cum laude with GPAs in the 3.70 – 3.84 range.
Graduation at Saint Mary's is incredibly special and unique," said Levesque. "It was great to have so many graduating seniors in pretty much the same place so we could share this day with the people who have shaped our experiences here. It's one of the best days of the year and I'm glad I got to share it with such amazing friends, teammates and families."
