Ben Enos Bio

Ben Enos was named Assistant Director for Communications in October, 2012.

He is responsible for assisting all aspects in the Communications department including the department's communications unit and media and public relations strategies for SMC athletics. He also assists with the development of the school's official athletic website, social media and video initiatives and serves as the department's primary media relations contact for volleyball, baseball and men's and women's tennis.

From 2003-2012, Enos served as a staff and freelance writer for the Contra Costa Times and, later, Bay Area News Group. He began writing for the paper as a freelance writer in 2003, eventually becoming a sports feature writer for the Danville Times. He became a full time staff writer at the paper in 2006.

During that time, Enos held several beat writer responsibilities, most notably as lead writer assigned to cover the Saint Mary's men's basketball team. He was also the paper's lead local high school football writer, covering the nationally renowned De La Salle High football team along with East Bay high school football at large.

He was a co-creator and co-star of the popular "Two Geeks and a Pigskin" web video series focused on high school football, and co-hosted the Bay Area News Group's annual East Bay High School Athletes award show at the Lesher Center in Walnut Creek.

Enos also assisted with coverage of Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics, and for three years produced the Contra Costa Times' annual Cream of the Crop football recruiting package that has now run for over 30 years.

As the paper's lead recruiting writer, he appeared on Comcast SportsNet's Chronicle Live to give analysis on National Signing Day. He has also covered several Olympic sports, including numerous Tours of California.

In 2012, Enos assisted the United States Golf Association with its coverage of the U.S. Open at Olympic Club in San Francisco. His duties included gathering of social media content and collection of quotes at post-round press conferences.

From 2002-06, Enos served as an intern and staff assistant for U.S. Congressman George Miller (7th District, Calif.). He assisted with casework and office management for Rep. Miller's Richmond office, and spearheaded a U.S. Census project in 2000 that detailed demographic and media information for every city in the 7th district. He was also responsible for intern training.

A third-generation Cal student, Enos graduated in 2006 with a degree in Political Science. During college, he held several jobs at once, including student workleader in the campus library and assistant junior varsity baseball coach at his alma mater, El Cerrito High School.
