MTEN | Manner, Norstrom Start Season Vs. USTA Juniors

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Saint Mary's men's tennis players Tuomas Manner and Joakim Norstrom got their fall season underway Wednesday as the duo teamed with players from Cal to take on a group of USTA Junior All-Stars in Berkeley.

Manner and Norstrom claimed their first victory of the day in doubles, defeating Jake Devine and Sameer Kumar 6-5 (4) at Hellman Tennis Complex. They then moved a few blocks down the street to the Channing Tennis Courts for singles, with Manner earning a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 win over Devine. Norstrom fell 6-2, 7-5 to Taylor Fritz in his singles match.

The matches served as a bit of a warm-up for Manner and Norstrom, who will next head to Tulsa, Okla. to take part in the ITA All-American Championship. That tournament begins on Sept. 28.
