STOCKTON, Calif. – First-year head coach Dan Cardiff continues to lead the Gaels to quality results as the squad rattled off some more wins this past weekend at the ITA Regionals. Four players qualified for the main singles draw with two of them requiring tiebreakers to cut their weekend short.

True freshman Juan Pedro Etchecoin won a pair of matches in qualifying, over Stanford and Washington, before falling in the main draw to Fryderyk Lechno from Cal. Finn Dyer and Thibaud Maxant also won qualifying matches in the round of 32 to secure their spot in the main draw.

On the doubles side, Thibaud Maxant and Finn Dyer paired up to win back-to-back matches and get all the way to the round of 16 before a heartbreaking 8-5 defeat that featured four consecutive deuce points for the Oregon duo. Francisco Duran and Bastien Maxant won their opening match over a UC Davis pair before falling in the round of 32.

"Our guys are proud of themselves but still hungry for more", said Cardiff. "Finn and Thibaud were up a break against Oregon but lost four consecutive deuce points wich was a heartbreaker, but very encouraging for them to know they can compete with the best. Fun weekend competing with our squad" (Cardiff).
