MBK | Saint Mary's Adds Non-League Game Against Grand Canyon

MORAGA, Calif. -- The Saint Mary's men's basketball program completed its non-conference schedule for the upcoming season with the addition of a home contest against Grand Canyon University.
Scheduled for Tuesday, March 1 at 7 p.m., the game will serve as the final regular-season competition of the season for Saint Mary's prior to the annual West Coast Conference Championships in Las Vegas. It will also mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
The Gaels are faced with the unique challenge of replacing all five starters from last year's team that went 21-10 and earned the program's eighth-straight trip to the postseason and eighth consecutive 20-plus win season. Over the last decade, Saint Mary's owns the best winning percentage among all NCAA Division I programs in the state of California.
Grand Canyon head coach Dan Majerle welcomes six returners to his team that went 17-15 overall last season and finished second in the Western Athletic Conference with an 8-6 mark.
The Gaels open the upcoming season on Friday, Nov. 13 with a 7 p.m. contest against local Division II San Francisco State. SMC will play a program most 19 home games this season, as well as a non-league game just 14 miles from campus at local rival Cal.
SMC's non-league home schedule also includes games against Manhattan, Stanford, CSU Bakersfield, UC Irvine, UC Davis, Cal Poly and Southern Utah. The Gaels open league play on Dec. 21 in McKeon Pavilion against longtime Bay Area rival San Francisco.
