MALIBU, Calif. -- The Saint Mary's men's tennis team brought its 2015 regular season to a close Saturday as the Gaels dropped the doubles point and then ran into a strong Pepperdine singles squad, falling 4-0 to the Waves in Malibu.
Saint Mary's never got on track against Pepperdine (15-8, 7-2 West Coast Conference) as the Waves won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and 2. Play at No. 3 was a bit closer, but SMC's team of Jacob Lagman and Samuel Bloore trailed 5-4 when the match was stopped.
From there, Pepperdine took control, rolling to wins at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles. Arthur Weber had a slight 2-1 lead in the second set of his match at No. 1, but the Waves dominated singles play from top to bottom to earn the season-ending victory.
Saint Mary's now turns its attention to the West Coast Conference Championships that begin Wednesday at Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. The Gaels' seed and opening opponent will be announced by the conference on Sunday.
