MORAGA, Calif. — Jake Rudel of the Saint Mary's men's soccer team was named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 24-30 after scoring the Gaels' lone goal in a 1-0 win over Santa Clara on Sunday.
The game-winning goal came from a free kick taken by Saint Mary's Rafael Sanchez in the 68th minute. The ball was crossed to the left goal post where Rudel was able to head it past Broncos 'keeper Pasha Hashemi to break the scoreless tie. Rudel's third goal of the year is tied for the most on the Gaels roster.
The victory was Saint Mary's second straight and fifth in its last seven matches. The win gave the Gaels sole possession of third place in the West Coast Conference.
The Gaels will play their next and final home game of the season on Sunday, Nov. 6 against Gonzaga at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to show up prior to kickoff as Saint Mary's will honor their three seniors before the match.
