MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's baseball catcher Nate Nolan was named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 21-27 after hitting .308 and slugging .846 while reaching base nine times in four games for the Gaels.
Nolan homered twice over the weekend against Gonzaga – including a two-run, two-out, game-winning home run in the bottom of the ninth Friday – helping the Gaels earn their first series victory over the Bulldogs since 2011. Nolan drove the first pitch he saw from Gonzaga's Hunter Wells over the right-center field wall for the comeback walk-off victory Friday, handing Saint Mary's a 6-5 victory.
Nolan hit .308 in four games last week with a .500 on-base percentage. He drew four walks and had three extra-base hits while also scoring three runs. He is now tied for the team lead in home runs with five and is second with 15 RBIs.
The first-place Gaels next travel to South Bay rival Santa Clara for a three-game West Coast Conference series starting Friday.
