Lyons Earns Muscle Milk Player of the Week Nod

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's men's soccer player Erik Lyons was named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring his first career goal Sunday in his first career start.

Lyons earned his first cap for the Gaels (1-3-2) Sunday against visiting UNLV and went straight to work. Looking for their first win of the season, Lyons gave the Gaels the spark they needed in the 10th minute. The rookie headed in a lofted pass from Max Mirner, who had taken a touch pass from Kai Howe out of the penalty area and sent it to Lyons near the far post. That gave the Gaels an early 1-0 lead, which they would hold for 30 minutes before eventually beating the Rebels, 4-1.

Lyons was one of four different freshmen scorers on Sunday. He is also now one of nine different goal scorers this season for the Gaels.

The Gaels' home stand continues at 4 p.m. Friday when they host Air Force. Season tickets and single-match tickets are available for all Saint Mary's home matches. Purchase tickets by clicking here or by calling the Saint Mary's ticket office at 925-631-GoTx.
