SMC TO REVISE PLANS FOR STUDENT ATHLETE PERFORMANCE CENTER

Nov. 9, 2017 MORAGA, Calif. – During their October meeting, the Saint Mary's College of California Board of Trustees challenged College leadership to reimagine the planning for the Student Athlete Performance Center. The board called for a revised project that aligns with gift commitments.

In response to this charge, President James Donahue tasked members of the board and College leadership to ensure the future success of Saint Mary's Division I Athletics Program.

The priorities of the project remain the same and focus on addressing the critical needs of our student-athletes, coaches, and loyal Gael fans. New and improved weight and training facilities for student-athletes will be realized by utilizing space in Madigan Gym. Plans also include upgrades for the fan experience, with many significant enhancements coming to McKeon Pavilion this season.

The College is fully committed to enhancing the fan and student-athlete experience as well as ensuring a safe facility for all who enter the doors of McKeon Pavilion. As part of this renovation, key seismic and fire safety updates will be completed following the 2017-18 season. The south wall of the Pavilion will remain in place, and improvements will be made to the student-athletes locker room facilities.
