MORAGA, Calif. — The Gaels had a strong second day of competition at the SMC Invitational on Saturday as doubles pair Abhishek Bastola and David Abfalter advanced to the final round.

In doubles competition, Bastola and Abfalter played a strong match against Jalali and Jayaramen from UC Davis with a 8-5 win that placed them in the championship match that will be played on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. In the consolation bracket, Akbarmirzo Mamirov and Boris Reckow earned another doubles win for the Gaels with a 8-6 score over Luque and Baranyl of Holy Names.

During singles competition, a number of Saint Mary's competitors picked up wins on Saturday, two of which advanced to the finals in their respective brackets. Abfalter pulled out a win against Santa Clara's Kamren Khan with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

Other Gaels who collected wins included Bastola with a 7-6(3), 6-3 defeat of Davis's Chethan Swanson and Mamirov with a 7-6(5), 6-3 defeat of Javier Luque from Holy Names.
