ABOUT BETHUNE-COOKMAN
The Wildcats are 4-4 to begin their season and are winners of two straight. The team most recently defeated FAU on Saturday to even their record thanks to a late three-pointer by Wali Parks.
Isaiah Bailey leads Bethune-Cookman with 14.7 points per game this year but has been absent in his team's last five contests. Malik Maitland has averaged 13 points and 4.5 assists as the starting point guard and is tied for 26th in the nation with 2.4 steals per contest. Forward Cletrell Pope is currently averaging a double-double with 10.9 points and 10.5 rebounds on 67 percent shooting from the field.
The Wildcats like to shoot the three-ball with 186 attempts taken through their first eight games but are connecting on just 30.1 percent of those tries. The team is also shooting just 59.7 percent from the free throw line this year in 144 trips.
The Gaels and Wildcats have met only once in the past in 2011 as Saint Mary's cruised to a 25 point victory.
ABOUT NEW MEXICO
The Lobos are 4-1 this year and will take on New Mexico State on the road prior to meeting the Gaels in Los Angeles for a neutral site showdown. New Mexico's only loss this season was also to NMSU earlier this season at home.
The Gaels and Lobos will play in the first session of a triple-header at Staples Center and will be followed by USC versus TCU at 6:30 p.m. and Arizona State versus Nevada at 9.
New Mexico is led by senior sharpshooter Anthony Mathias who is averaging 17.8 points this season on 60.5 percent from 3-point distance. The Lobos as a team have been deadly from beyond the arc and have made nearly half their shots (49.8 percent) which places them 26th in the nation. UNM has averaged 88.0 points this season and rank 20th in the nation in tempo, a stark contrast to the Gaels' offense who are 337th in that category.
Saint Mary's is 0-2 all-time against the Lobos but the teams haven't met since SMC head coach Randy Bennett's inaugural season in 2001. Friday's matchup will mark the first time the two teams have played each other outside of Albuquerque.
ABOUT CAL STATE FULLERTON
Following their trip to the NCAA Tournament last season, the Titans are 3-5 on the young year and will face another WCC school, Loyola Marymount, on Wednesday before coming to Moraga on Monday. CSUF nearly took down Arizona State in Tempe in the team's season opener and forced double overtime before eventually falling by eight points. Two of the Titans' wins this year have come against non-DI opponents (West Coast Baptist and Cal Lutheran).
Fullerton has two dynamic senior guards in Khalil Ahmed and Kyle Allman Jr. who are both scoring over 20 points per game this season. Forward Jackson Rowe is also reaching double-digit points this season with 10.6 per contest.
The Gaels are 6-5 all-time against CSUF and have won the last four matchups, including all three during Bennett's tenure. Saint Mary's defeated the Titans by 19-points last year at home thanks in part to a 22 point performance from Calvin Hermanson.
