Jock Landale, Calvin Hermanson, and Cullen Neal have each signed contracts to play professionally in Europe.
MORAGA, Calif. — A trio of Gael seniors from last season will continue their basketball careers overseas as Jock Landale, Calvin Hermanson, and Cullen Neal have each signed professional contracts to play in Europe.
Landale, the WCC's reigning Player of the Year, signed a two-year deal with the Serbian club Partizan this week after a July-stint with the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Summer League. Partizan will look to Landale to help them return to their former glory. After winning the league's first eight championships, the club has finished runner-up to Crvena zvezda in the past four seasons.
Last season, the Australian big man averaged 21.1 points and 10.2 rebounds while playing over 33 minutes per contest en route to First Team All-WCC recognition and being named a finalist for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award. After inking a Summer League deal with the Hawks, Landale averaged 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 points against the top, young competition of the NBA.
Hermanson will play with the Spanish club Palencia in the upcoming season following a sterling career with the Gaels and a successful run with Saint Mary's alumni team, Gael Force, in the TBT Tournament this summer. Palenica plays in the 18-team LEB Oro league in Spain. The team finished 5th out of 18 teams last season with a 21-21 record and last won the LEB Oro championship in 2015-16.
The Lake Oswego, Ore. native was second on Saint Mary's last season with 11.3 points per contest while shooting a team-leading 44.3 percent from beyond the arc. Hermanson ranks second all-time in three pointers made in program history and was a vital piece in the team's tremendous success in recent years.
Neal will begin his professional career with ROSA Radom in Poland. The team plays in Poland's highest basketball tier and made the league playoffs last year but was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Neal joined the Gaels after three seasons spent at New Mexico and Ole Miss. The guard was a veteran presence for Saint Mary's, appearing in 35 games while averaging 13.8 minutes and 5.3 points per game. For his career, Neal scored over 1,200 points including a season-high 18 last year against Gonzaga.
