Saint Mary's announced their 2018-19 golf schedule today with a focus on a deep postseason run.
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's men's golf coach Scott Hardy announced the 2018-19 schedule for his team today with a challenging lineup that features both familiar and new tournaments for the Gaels to tackle this season.
"Each season our goal is to play the best golf courses and best competition possible," said Hardy. "Our tournament schedule accomplishes that this season."
SMC will tee off the season beginning on Sep. 17 at the Ute Invitational in Driggs, Ida. as hosted by the University of Utah. The Gaels return to the course the following week at the Inverness Invitational in Toledo, Ohio and will defend their tournament title as they finished first in the same competition last season.
The Gaels will once again host a tournament, the Saint Mary's Invitational, this season at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif. The three-day contest will span Nov. 5-7. More information on competitors and tee times will be released in the coming weeks.
Saint Mary's will play at a number of familiar tournaments this season including the Alister Mackenzie Invitational (Oct. 8-9), Visit Stockton Invitational (Oct. 25-29), Arizona Intercollegiate (Jan. 29-30), and The Goodwin (Mar. 28-30). The Gaels played at each of theses courses last season and posted a third-place finish at the Visit Stockton Invitational with senior Pavan Sagoo tying for fourth place among individuals.
"It's great to present our athletes with a very strong schedule so they can compete and excel against the best teams and players in college golf," furthered Hardy.
Also announced were the dates for the WCC Championship Tournament which will be held Apr. 25-27. The location for the tournament is to be determined. Saint Mary's finished second last season at the conference championships.
"Our team goals this year are focused around postseason success and this schedule provides the opportunity to achieve those goals. We will challenge and prepare our student-athletes with these tournaments."
