GOLF | Gaels Represented at Local Web.com Tourney

One current and one former Gael played at TPC Stonebrae this week as a part of the Web.com Tour.
HAYWARD, Calif. — Two Gaels, one current and one former, competed at the Ellie Mae Classic at TPC Stonebrae this week as part of the Web.com Tour.
Ryan Grauman and Dalan Refioglu (pictured above) represented Saint Mary's at the local tournament and displayed strong play among a tough field. Grauman, an incoming freshman, competed as an amateur and recovered from a difficult opening round to shoot 3-under in the second round and finish at 6-over. Less than two weeks prior to the Ellie Mae Classic, Grauman also competed at the PGA Junior Championships in Louisville, where he finished eighth out of 144 in a field consisting of the nation's best junior players.
"Ryan gained valuable experience competing in this tournament," said Saint Mary's head coach Scott Hardy. "He was admittedly nervous but bounced back in the second round and played great. It's tremendous that he's already played in a Web.com Tour before starting college."
Playing alongside Grauman at the tournament was Refioglu, a four-time varsity letter winner at Saint Mary's who graduated in 2014. During his time in Moraga, Refioglu was a member of the 2012 Gaels team that won the WCC title for the first time in program history as well as the 2013 squad who defended the title to clinch back-to-back championships. Refioglu made the cut and finished 3-under to grab a chunk of the $600,000 purse.
"Making the cut in a Web.com event is a nice step forward for Dalan," praised Hardy of his former player. "He continues to move up the ladders of professional golf while showing he is ready to consistently compete at a high level."
Also competing at the tournament was the Golden State Warriors star guard, Stephen Curry. The three-time NBA Champion and two-time MVP shot a very respectable 1-over in the first round before a rough second round forced him to miss the cut.
Saint Mary's will begin their 2018-19 campaign in just over a month at the Ute Invitational in Driggs, Ida. Information and dates for upcoming tournaments can be found on the Gaels schedule page.
