SAN FRANCISCO – The Saint Mary's men's and women's cross country teams opened the season at the 26th USF Cross Country Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gaels went into the invitational looking to establish depth on both the men's and women's side. Several top returners for both teams were held out, as it was time for the youth of the programs to shine.
Head Coach Marty Kinsey said the team practiced running in packs and running tempo and effort. "We had several career races today, which is a good sign considering how we held back for the race," Kinsey said.
TOP RUNNERS
While showcasing their talents throughout the day, the Gaels were led by Nolan Dozier, Derek D'Amelia and Alex Riggsby on the men's side.
On the women's side, Kaela Dishion was impressive in her first collegiate race, along with Abigayle Mitchell and Katie Watson.
UP NEXT
Saint Mary's will travel to South Bend, Ind. to participate in the National Catholic Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 14.
