MTEN | Gaels Come Up Short on Day 1 of Milwaukee Classic

Saint Mary's fought hard but dropped their matches in the opening day of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.

MILWAUKEE — Saint Mary's fought hard in Day 1 of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic but ultimately came up short in their three matches of the day.

In singles play, junior Matis Bot went up against Abdoul Ouattara from Nebraska. A close first set ended in a 6-4 decision for Ouattara, who also picked up the second set and the win with a 6-2 score. Senior Daniel Krutik faced off with Robert Turzak of NC State but also fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Bot and Krutik joined up to face the team of Ogden/Shick from NC State but dropped the tough contest, 8-5.

UP NEXT: DAY 2
Both Gaels will play tomorrow in the singles' consolation Round of 32 tomorrow. There is no doubles' consolation bracket scheduled in the tournament.
