Mariia Kozyreva has been named Student-Athlete of the Week for her impressive performances throughout the ITA Regionals.
MORAGA, Calif. — No. 68 Mariia Kozyreva has been named Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Oct. 21-28 for her strong performances in the ITA Regionals at Stanford University.
On the first day of the tournament, Kozyreva posted two victories in the Round of 128 and Round of 64 as she easily defeated both of her opponents in straight-set fashion. Kozyreva had two impressive performances on the second day as she secured two wins and would go on to compete in the quarterfinals of the ITA Regionals.
In the Round of 32, the junior faced off against California's Alexis Nelson and won 6-1, 6-2. Kozyreva then advanced to the Round of 16 where she took on No. 30 Emily Arbuthnott and earned a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Arbuthnott.
In the third day of action, Kozyreva continued to dominate on the court as she faced another ranked player in the quarterfinals, Cal's No. 42 Anna Bright. Kozyreva showed no hesitation in the match as she secured the 6-1, 6-3 win in straight sets.
Following her victory in the quarterfinals, Kozyreva advanced to the semifinals where she will take on Katarina Kopcalic from Washington at noon on Monday.
