WTEN | Daryaie Wins Main Draw Match in Return at the ITA Northwest Regionals

BERKELEY/MORAGA, Calif. – Saint Mary's played a flurry of matches this past weekend in the ITA Women's Northwest Regional Championship. Several players were in action for the Gaels including Iman Khan, Madison Weekley, Elif Tuana Gunal and Sofia Daryaie.
On Saturday, Daryaie won her dual in the round of 64 against Cindy Ung from Pacific, 6-4 3-6 6-1. The victory was especially sweet for Daryaie as she made her return to the court from an injury she suffered last season. Gunal and Kahn fell in straight sets in their opening round after qualifying for the main draw on Friday and Weekley put up a tough match but ultimately fell in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4) 6-4.
"It was a productive weekend for us", said head coach Katharina Winterhalter. "It was a really tough draw with lots of good players and great competition. The team continues to get better in different areas. We played lots of tennis this weekend and I'm proud of the way we competed into the final day" (Winterhalter).
