Saint Mary's collected five wins on Saturday in the second day of the Bulldog Classic.
FRESNO, Calif. — The Gaels collected five victories on Saturday to complete the second day of the Bulldog Classic.
In singles competition, Saint Mary's recorded three wins led by Akbarmirzo Mamirov, Jackson Hawk, James Watt, and Abhishek Bastola.
Mamirov easily defeated his opposition in straight sets as he recorded went 6-4 in the first set followed by a 6-2 victory in the second to claim the win.
Hawk also collected a straight set win as he took on Martin from UC Riverside in a strong match of tennis and ultimately beat him in two sets with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
Watt took on Shenkirck from Cal Poly in a tough three set match as Watt easily took the first set 6-0 while Shenkirk took the second set 6-4. Watt made the comeback as he defeated his opposition 1-0(3) in a 10 point tiebreaker to secure the win.
Bastola claimed the third singles victory of the day as he also defeated Delisle from Cal Poly in three sets. Delisle claimed the first set in a close 6-3 win, but Bastola made a thrilling comeback as he defeated Delisle 6-2 followed by a 6-2 victory to lock down the win.
Karlo Divkovic and Bastola partnered up to pick up a 8-7(4) defeat over Sacramento State for the Gaels' lone doubles win of the day.
Day three of the tournament continues tomorrow.
