MBB | Gaels to Host Lehigh, Sonoma State This Weekend

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (4-1) will host two additional contests this week in back-to-back games as they will face off against Lehigh on Saturday at 5 p.m. and will take on Sonoma State on Sunday at 7 p.m.

ABOUT LEHIGH
Lehigh (3-3) is coming off a split weekend as they defeated Misericordia 87-68 at home on Monday to improve their home record to 2-1. The Mountain Hawks traveled to Iowa on Thursday to take on Drake and ultimately fell 74-58. 

James Karnik leads the team in scoring with 72 points and is the only Mountain Hawk to average double digit points per game (12.0) while averaging 27.3 minutes of action. Karnik is also the team's top rebounder at 6.7 boards per contest. Four other Mountain Hawks average over 20 minutes per game including Jordan Cohen who also carries the team in both assists and steals with 24 and 10, respectively.

Freshman Evan Taylor has started in four games for Lehigh and has been the team's top scorer from beyond-the-arc as he has made six of his 12 total attempts.

The contest on Saturday will be the first meeting between Saint Mary's and Lehigh in program history. 

ABOUT SONOMA STATE
After dropping three straight contests, Sonoma State (2-3) recorded a 86-73 victory in their CCAA conference opener over Humboldt State on Thursday. Following the contest, the Seawolves improved their away record to 2-1 and are currently 1-0 in conference action. 

Senior forward Isaac Davidson has been at the forefront of the Seahawks' offensive leaderboard as he has averaged 20.6 points per game in 35.2 minutes of play. Davidson is the lone player for the Seahawks that has averaged more than 20 points per game while just three other Seahawks have averaged over 10. Guard Kenny Olsen leads the team in rebounds as he has posted 6.6 boards per contest.

Saint Mary's has dominated the series with Sonoma State as the Gaels own the 12-1 all-time record. SMC has not dropped a contest to the Seahawks since 1972 when Saint Mary's fell by just one point in Sonoma State's territory.
