MBB | Fotu, Ducas Shine Against Seattle in 84-58 Win

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (13-2) capped off their non-conference schedule with a flourish Saturday night as they trounced Seattle 84-58 in front of a sold out crowd inside University Credit Union Pavilion.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Dan Fotu had his way against the Seattle (7-8) defense as the sophomore forward went for a career-high 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting. The Kiwi played 31 minutes at center in his first start of the season, filling in for Matthias Tass who suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Gaels' last outing versus Nevada. In addition, Fotu grabbed five boards and was 3-for-3 at the free throw line.

Alex Ducas also had a career-night for the Gaels as he scored a personal best 16 points in 19 minutes off the bench. The freshman hit multiple corner threes to finish 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Saint Mary's usual suspects, Jordan Ford and Malik Fitts, also factored into double-figures with 15 and 10, respectively. Ford contributed two assists while Fitts grabbed seven rebounds as well.

The Gaels jumped out to a 13-0 run out of the halftime break to take their largest lead of the game to that point at 19. Seattle didn't score a bucket until five and a half minutes had expired in the period when Morgan Means made a layup to stop the bleeding.

SMC was up 8-0 at the first media timeout with Fitts scoring four of those points. The Gaels never trailed in the game and led for nearly 38.

The Gaels took a 36-30 lead into the break. Ford had 13 after 20 minutes of play while Fotu tied his season-high with nine.

Jock Perry made his first appearance of the season late in the game for the Gaels after missing the previous 14 contests with injuries. He collected four rebounds and scored two in four minutes.
