Saint Mary's will host the Hornets for their home-opener on Saturday.
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's women's tennis (1-4) will play at home for the first time this season as they look to battle Sacramento State on Saturday with an 11 a.m. start time at the Korth Tennis Complex.
ABOUT THE GAELS
The Gaels were on the road last week as they faced off against UC Santa Barbara, but after a hard-fought match they ultimately fell 4-3. Mariia Kozyreva picked up the first win for Saint Mary's in the No. 1 singles slot as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Chloe Goyette came from behind and defeated her opposition with a final score of 1-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-0 while Jordan Harris was the third win for the Gaels as she won 6-3, 6-3.
On doubles courts, the doubles duo Clementine Clement and Liesl Pieters recorded the lone doubles win as they overcame their opponents in a 6-2 win in the No. 3 spot.
ABOUT THE HORNETS
With just two matches under their belt so far this season, Sacramento State (0-2) is coming off a 5-2 loss on the road against San Francisco. The Hornets dropped all three of their doubles matches, but managed to pick up two singles wins. Freshman Jayden Nielsen picked up the first victory as she won 6-1 in the first set of the contest and ultimately won because her opponent retired after the first. In a long battle against her USF opponent, senior Sofi Wicker collected the second win for Sacramento as she won 5-7, 6-1, 10-8.
