MTEN | Gaels Host Aggies, Thunderbirds in First Home Matches of Season

Saint Mary's will host UC Davis and Southern Utah this weekend for their season home-opener.
MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's (0-2) will look to earn their first win of the season as they return home to host UC Davis and Southern Utah at Timothy Korth Tennis Complex in a pair of matchups on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8 and Feb. 9.

ABOUT THE GAELS
In their last match against UC Irvine, the Gaels picked up two victories in singles play, but ultimately fell 5-2 to the Anteaters. In the No. 4 singles slot, James Watt collected his first collegiate win as he defeated his opponent in a straight set 6-4, 6-4 win. Brian Lee also led the Gaels' efforts on Friday as he overcame his opponent in a hard fought match of three sets and won, 6-4, 1-6, 10-2.
On doubles courts, Daniel Krutik and Lee proved to play a close match, but were ultimately overcome by Anteater opponents Hansen/Gealer and fell, 6-4.
ABOUT THE AGGIES
UC Davis currently holds a 6-1 overall record and are coming off their first loss as they fell 6-1 in a double-header against USC. The Aggies were able to pick up two wins on doubles courts as Goulak/Thamma and Jalalil/Swanson each defeated their opposition and won 6-4 and 7-6 (4), respectively. Goulak and Thamma continue to lead the Aggies' efforts as they have a 9-1 record in the No. 1 doubles slot.
ABOUT THE THUNDERBIRDS
In their last match against University of California Riverside, Southern Utah won 5-2 to improve their overall record to 3-1. During the contest, the Thunderbirds claimed four victories in singles action and collected all three on doubles courts. Jonathan Morales leads the Thunderbirds as he holds a 3-0 record in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles slot. Southern Utah will play a pair of matches against Sonoma State and Sacramento State before heading to Moraga on Feb. 9.
