SB | Gaels Drop Close Contest to Manhattan

Saint Mary's put up a fight against the Jaspers on Sunday, but ultimately fell 6-4 in the eighth inning.

MORAGA, Calif. — After going into eight innings of action, Saint Mary's (6-16) dropped the final contest of the Saint Mary's Tournament on Sunday after falling 6-4 in a hard fought game against the Manhattan Jaspers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Manhattan got the game going after scoring four runs in the second inning, but Saint Mary's managed to make a quick comeback in the fourth after scoring four runs to tie up the game.

Julia McCormack got the Gaels on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle to drive in Bailey Lotz for their first run. Lotz's run was her twelfth of the season.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kalissa Heihn led SMC to two more runs as she smacked a single and advanced to third off a fielding error to bring home both Jayda Alaan and Dylan Linton. Lotz would go on to tie up the game with an RBI single through left side to bring Heihn home for their fourth run.

Following the fifth inning, neither team was able to collect a run forcing the contest to go into an extra inning. Unfortunately for the Gaels, the Jaspers would immediately pick up two runs in the top of the eighth to clinch the 6-4 win.

Saint Mary's tallied eleven hits and two stolen bases during the game. McCormack led the Gaels as she went 3-for-4 and collected her third double of the season, which was the lone double on the day. Linton, Lotz, and Kimiko Zapanta were right behind McCormack as they each picked up two hits for the Gaels.

UP NEXT: MARIST
Saint Mary's will host a doubleheader against Marist on Wednesday with the first game beginning at 2 p.m. More information for the contest can be found on the Gaels' schedule page.
