SB | Gaels Can't Contain Matador Bats in Two Losses

CSUN had the offense rolling against the Gaels on Saturday as they swept the doubleheader.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — A potent Matador lineup roughed up the Gaels' pitching staff on Saturday as Saint Mary's (7-19) dropped both games in their doubleheader.

Game 1
CSUN 8, Saint Mary's 0 (6)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Two big innings for CSUN (15-16) made the difference in the first game of the day as the Matadors took the contest in six innings.

Megan Stevens put CSUN up big in the third with a bases loaded triple to make the score 5-0. In the final frame, Stevens tallied her fourth RBI of the game with a double to center and would later score as the Matadors plated their eighth run during the inning to clinch the win.

The Gaels collected four hits in the game including a double by Hannah Chew. Mazzie Davies made her first career start for Saint Mary's and went 1-for-2 at the dish.

Eileen Perez pitched the complete game for the Gaels and struck out six in the loss.

Game 2
CSUN 8, Saint Mary's 2

HOW IT HAPPENED

Errors proved to be costly for the Gaels in Game 2 as all eight runs were charged as unearned for the Saint Mary's pitching staff. SMC committed three mistakes in the field that allowed for two four-run innings for CSUN.

Dylan Linton provided both RBIs for Saint Mary's with a bases loaded single in the fifth to score Kimiko Zapanta and Nikki Alexander. Unfortunately for the Gaels, those would be the only two runs to cross in the game as the team picked up five hits.

Alexander went 2-for-3 to lead the offense while Jayda Alaan went 1-for-2 with two hit by pitches from the No. 2 slot in the lineup.

Sofia Earle picked up the tough luck loss as she allowed four unearned runs in 1.1 innings of work. Eryn McCoy pitched the final 4.2 innings for the Gaels and allowed only five hits.
