SB | Gaels Slip Up at Stanford

Saint Mary's fell twice to the Cardinal on the road Wednesday.

STANFORD, Calif. — Saint Mary's (7-23) came up short in their midweek doubleheader against the Cardinal (23-4) on Wednesday as they were shutout in both contests.

Game 1
Stanford 8, Saint Mary's 0 (5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Gaels picked up only two hits in the game off the bat of Hannah Chew and Abbey Mariani. Kimiko Zapanta also drew a walk from the leadoff spot to reach base safely.

The Cardinal took an early lead with three runs in the first and doubled their lead two innings later. In the fifth, Stanford plated their two final runs to enact the run-rule and finish the contest.

Emily Schultz went 3-for-3 in the game with three doubles and three RBIs to pave Stanford's win. The Cardinal had nine hits in the game and seven of those were doubles.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The second game of Wednesday's doubleheader produced the same results for the Gaels who fell again, 8-0.

Nikki Alexander went 2-for-2 at the dish and had a double while Dylan Linton had the team's only other base knock. The Gaels also had two walks and only three strikeouts as a team.

Stanford's Maddy Dwyer kept the Gaels off the base paths as she recorded 16 outs against just 19 batters faced and gave up only two hits.

The Cardinal had four more extra base hits in the win including a jack from Schultz who added four more runs batted in. Stanford also drew eight walks to supplement their 10 total hits.

UP NEXT: NORTH TEXAS
The Gaels will have this weekend off before traveling to North Texas for a three-game set with the Mean Green beginning April 6.
