MTEN | Gaels Travel to Sacramento for Golden Gate Invite

Saint Mary's will hit the road on Friday to face off against Sacramento State for the two-day Golden Gate Invitational.

MORAGA, Calif. — Saint Mary's men's tennis (1-6, 0-1 WCC) will hit the road to Sacramento on Friday for the two-day Golden Gate Invitational against the Hornets.

ABOUT THE GAELS
As they head into Friday's invitational, the Gaels are coming off their first conference match against San Diego. During the match, Saint Mary's put up a hard fight, but ultimately fell 4-0 to the Toreros. In the No. 2 singles spot, James Watt was narrowly defeated after winning the first set 6-4, but after Toreros' Joel Gamerov took the second set, the match went unfinished. Matis Bot also led his opponent as the No. 3 singles player, but the contest was called after the first two sets.

In doubles action, Daniel Krutik and David Abfalter led their opponents 5-4 before the matchup ultimately went unfinished.

ABOUT THE HORNETS
Sacramento State currently holds a 4-5 overall record and are 3-1 in the Big Sky. In their last matchup, freshman Johannes Gjerdaker collected the lone point for the Hornets as they dropped a 6-1 decision against Santa Clara. Gjerdaker has won five straight singles matches and is 6-3 so far this season. On the doubles court, Hornets' duo Mikus Losbergs and Louis
Chabut defeated their opposition as the No. 1 seed, but it was not enough to overcome the Broncos.
