TRK | Gael Freshmen Race Strong at Cal State East Bay Invitational

HAYWARD, Calif. – Gael freshmen came up big this weekend at the Cal State East Bay Invitational and recorded a number of personal-bests.

For the women's team, freshman Kaela Dishion continued to have a strong season and collected not one but two PRs in the 800 meter run (2:22.74) and the 1500 meter run (4:45.09). Freshman Amrita Vepa also raced well on Saturday and recorded a heat win and ranked 13th during her race in the 400 meter dash (1:04.36).

For the men's team, freshman Tommy Bell was the second runner of the weekend to get PRs in both of the races they ran as he did so in both the 800 meter run (1:58.07) and the 1500 (4:02.98). He also won his heat in the 1500 and ranked fifth among the competition. Anthony Vazquez (4:03.33) and Michael Lopez (4:30.87) were both able to run personal-bests in the 1500 as well.

"Today was a fun day for our athletes to run in events before we head down to the Bryan Clay Invite in Azusa," said head coach Marty Kinsey. "We had a goal to collect PRs and heat wins, which we were able to accomplish. It was also nice to see some of our freshman step up and set personal-bests despite doubling. I think we are set up well for a good finish to the season."
