No. 27 Mariia Kozyreva and Hind Abdelouahid were named WCC Doubles Team of the Week after going 2-0 against Portland and Gonzaga.
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — For the second time in the past three weeks, Mariia Kozyreva and Hind Abdelouahid were named WCC Doubles Team of the Week after going 2-0 and posting a win over a ranked opponent. The Gaels' tandem was named No. 27 in the nation this morning by the ITA.
The pair began the week by dominating Portland's top duo of Jelena Lukic and Anna Oberg 6-1 as the Gaels rolled to a 4-0 sweep. The following day, Kozyreva and Abdelouahid squared off with Gonzaga's best tandem, No. 22 Sophie Whittle and Graciela Rosas. After a hard fought battle, Saint Mary's pairing arose victorious, 7-5.
Kozyreva and Abdelouahid have been unstoppable this spring with a 9-1 record and 6-0 showing thus far in WCC action. The Gaels (9-9, 5-2 WCC) return home this week for their final two matches of the regular season against San Diego and BYU.
Saturday's match against the Cougars will also be Senior Day.
